Recertification

Maintaining Your CAPFC Certification
Earning your CAPFC is the beginning, not the finish line. The financial crime landscape and the AI systems operating within it evolves continuously. Recertification ensures continuity to your practitioner-level expertise.
Continuing Education Requirements
To maintain your CAPFC designation, certified professionals are required to complete 60 Continuing Education (CE) credits every three years. This requirement reflects CAFC's commitment to keeping its community at the forefront of developments in AI, financial crime, and compliance.
What is included in your CE credits
- CAFC events and conferences
- CAFC webinars and training programs
- Relevant industry conferences and seminars
- Completed courses in AI, financial crime, compliance, or related fields
- Published research, articles, or thought leadership in the field
At least 30 of those 60 credits must come from CAFC-provided training including events, webinars, and courses hosted directly by CAFC.
Eligible credit-earning activities:
| Activity | Credits |
|---|---|
| CAFC events and conferences | Varies by event |
| CAFC webinars and training programs | Varies by program |
| Relevant industry conferences and seminars | Up to 15 credits |
| Completed courses in AI, financial crime, or compliance | Up to 10 credits |
| Published articles, research, or thought leadership | Up to 5 credits |
Keep documentation of all activities, certificates of attendance, confirmation emails, or published work, as these may be requested during an audit.
Recertification Process
Recertification is required every three years from the date of your original certification. The process is straightforward and designed to fit around a working professional's schedule.
How to recertify:
Log your CE credits
Ensure you log your CE credits before initiating recertification
Submit your recertification application
Complete and submit the recertification form to info@cafc.org
Pay the renewal fee
A recertification fee of $250 is payable at the time of application
Renew your certification
Upon successful review, your CAPFC designation will be renewed for a further three-year period

Letting Your Certification Lapse
If recertification is not completed within the three-year window, your CAPFC designation will move to lapsed status. Lapsed certificants who wish to reinstate their credential may be required to retake the certification exam in full and pay any outstanding fees. CAFC strongly encourages certified professionals to begin tracking CE credits from the date of certification to avoid any disruption to their standing.
